CLEP: Basics
The College Level Examination Program (CLEP) asses college-level knowledge for 34 subjects which provides students a mechanism for earning college credits. These are created and administered by the College Board. They are administered at multiple colleges, universities, and military installations. CLEP credit is granted by about 2,900 colleges. CLEP mostly benefits continuing education students and college students.
These tests are beneficial for individuals who have obtained knowledge outside the classroom, be it self-study, homeschooling, job experience, cultural interactions, and even for students schooled outside the United States. It provides an opportunity to demonstrate proficiency in specific areas and bypass undergraduate coursework. It is preferred because of their lower and convenience wrt a semester of coursework for comparable credit. Each CLEP test usually corresponds to a one or two-semester introductory course on the topic, though the Spanish, French, and German Language exams can be used to earn up to 12 credits.
The College Board offers 34 CLEP exams in several subject areas.
TEST FEE: CLEP exams take between 90 to 120 minutes to complete and the fee for each test is $89. There is an additional fee of $10 for the optional essay portion of some of the exams. CLEP tests are free to U.S. service members and some members. An additional administrative/registration fee is charged at $15-40 depending upon the test center.
Students can register for the CLEP exams w. the College Board or by contacting a testing center.
CLEP exams are primarily multiple-choice exams that are scored on a scale from 20 to 80. CLEP exams are administered via online mode and the results are shared immediately post it.
